10 powerful quotes to inspire the greatness in you today

Sadly, people will often avoid doing something they’d like to do simply for fear of what they believe other people may think.

People will allow the limitations of other people’s thinking to stop them from having a go at something.

Why?

The reason for this is usually because they fear embarrassment if they have a go at something and then fail in some way.

Well, let me tell you if being a little embarrassed is the worst thing that ever happens to you dear reader then you’ll be very lucky indeed.

Never fear embarrassment:

What other people think is simply what they think. Who cares? Because it really doesn’t matter.

It certainly doesn’t mean they’re right. It probably just means they’re a little narrow-minded or they can’t quite appreciate how good you’ll feel when you succeed.

Then again, perhaps they just don’t want you to succeed at something they would be unwilling to try.

Well, life’s too short to worry about what others think.

Give them something to gossip about:

Let them think whatever they like. As long as you feel it’s worth trying then ignore the doubters. Give them something to gossip about.

If you fancy having a go at something then just have a go.

It’s your life and you’ll only live it once. Therefore you must make the most of it.

If you have a go, either you’ll succeed or you won’t.

If you succeed you’ll prove the doubters wrong.

And if you’re unsuccessful then you’ll learn a valuable lesson and at least you won’t spend your life wondering what might have been.

And why feel embarrassed anyway? At least you had the guts to have a go.

So go on, have a go but not before you’ve read these ten powerful quotes to inspire the greatness in you.

Powerful Quotes to Inspire Greatness:

  1. Never mind what others do; do better than yourself, beat your own record from day to day and you are a success. ~William J.H. Boetcker

  5. Life is like a grindstone: Whether it grinds you down or polishes you up depends on what you’re made of. ~Author Unknown

10 shocking quotes guaranteed to make you think

There are many categories of quotes. One category I’ve not explored until now is shocking quotes. That is quotes where the authors refer to something which to them is shocking.

Well, today I offer you 10 shocking quotes guaranteed to make you think.

These are 10 great quotes and I hope you find them all interesting and thought-provoking.

Shocking Quotes:

  1. The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. ~Aldous Huxley
  2. The writer of originality, unless dead, is always shocking and scandalous; novelty disturbs and repels. ~Simone de Beauvoir
  3. A shocking crime was committed on the unscrupulous initiative of few individuals, with the blessing of more and amid the passive acquiescence of all. ~Tacitus
  4. To me, the most shocking thing about grit is how little we know, how little science knows, about building it. Every day, parents and teachers ask me, ‘How do I build grit in kids? What do I do to teach kids a solid work ethic? How do I keep them motivated for the long run?’ The honest answer is, I don’t know. ~Angela Duckworth
  5. The way we allow children to be advertised to is shocking. Eating is a learned behaviour, and we’ve made these kids sitting ducks for all the bad messages about industrialized food. The fact that we allow that to go on is horrifying. ~Ruth Reichl
  6. The poverty one still sees in America today is more shocking to me than anything I have seen in Ethiopia or Calcutta or Manila, and has made me, as someone living in a society of great wealth and someone who’s never had to worry about the next meal, think seriously about what universal responsibility really means. ~Pico Iyer
  7. It’s very shocking, I think, for people caring for the dying to realise how unsaintly they feel, how much anger is mixed up with their grief. In fact, often I think the anger that they feel is a form of grief; it’s a kind of rage against what’s happening. ~Helen Garner
  8. It’s shocking to me that it’s easier to buy a gun at Wal-Mart than it is to buy my record. ~Marilyn Manson
  9. I’d rather get a good clean laugh with good material, than an easy laugh by swearing or shocking. That’s not clever or comedic, anybody can get a laugh that way, it’s too easy. ~Jim Dale

7 inspirational quotes about humor to make you think

quotes-about-humorHumor is the most powerful medicine known to man [and woman].

Humor is a cure for so many ills. It doesn’t matter how bad you feel, a good laugh can really make you feel so much better.

In all humor there is an underlying germ of truth. It is poking fun at the truth that makes us laugh.

However, for those on the receiving end, humor can sometimes hurt. Having a good laugh at someone else’s expense can only ever be acceptable if they can see the funny side too.

So be careful with your attempts at humor. Be kind and be mindful of the sensibilities of other people.

Banter and mild leg-pulling is fine but overdo it and it can quickly turn into bullying. And that’s really not very nice, is it?

So, have a good laugh whenever possible. However, make sure someone else doesn’t have to pay an unacceptable price for your laughter.

Here are seven inspirational quotes about humor to reinforce today’s message.

Quotes About Humor:

  1. A day without laughter is a day wasted. ~Charlie Chaplin
  2. Everything is funny, as long as it’s happening to somebody else. ~Will Rogers
  3. There’s a thin line that separates laughter and pain, comedy and tragedy, humor and hurt. ~Erma Bombeck
  4. I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it’s the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It’s probably the most important thing in a person. ~Audrey Hepburn
  5. I realize that humor isn’t for everyone. It’s only for people who want to have fun, enjoy life, and feel alive. ~Anne Wilson Schaef
  6. Good humor is a tonic for mind and body. It is the best antidote for anxiety and depression. It is a business asset. It attracts and keeps friends. It lightens human burdens. It is the direct route to serenity and contentment. ~Grenville Kleiser
  7. Most comedy is based on getting a laugh at somebody else’s expense. And I find that that’s just a form of bullying in a major way. So I want to be an example that you can be funny and be kind, and make people laugh without hurting somebody else’s feelings. ~Ellen DeGeneres

15 inspirational quotes about society to get you thinking

Today dear reader, let’s explore some quotes about society. I think the importance of society is not always fully appreciated.

People are social animals and society is the fabric that binds us all together.

We don’t have to like each other but we do have to get along with each other if life is to be tolerable and people are to feel safe and secure.

Getting along requires us to treat each other with respect of course but society could not function without an accepted system of governance, a broadly common culture and everyone feeling that they are being treated fairly.

That does not mean people within a given society must be completely homogeneous. It does not mean that there cannot be differences. There are and will always be some differences between people within society and that’s fine.

However, no group can stand completely apart from everyone else in society, if society is to function well. You’re either part of a society or you’re not.

We all have a responsibility to society:

If you choose not to be part of a given society for whatever reason then that’s your decision and it’s perfectly reasonable to have a preference for living in some other society.

After all, that’s why people emigrate, to find a way of life that’s more consistent with the way they would prefer to live.

However, you cannot accept the benefits that come with being a member of a given society and then reject the obligations you have to your fellow citizens which are a natural part of living within a given society.

Our fellow citizens matter too:

We all must try to understand our fellow citizens and try to appreciate the reality of their existence.

The better we know other people the more we will see them as people just like us with hopes and dreams and a desire to create a better world for their children.

Strip away superficial differences and we are all the same. Well, I think so anyway.

Society must exist for the benefit of everyone if it is to mean anything at all.

Benefits versus obligations:

Everyone should benefit from being a member of society but that means we all must contribute to the society within which we live as well. And we must respect our fellow citizens too.

Those making the greatest contribution may derive the biggest rewards but the strong should also lend a hand to the weak.

We all have a part to play and we all gain when society functions well. If we all work for the common good then society can benefit everyone.

The question to ask yourself:

To think about it another way; for what will you be remembered? For what would you like to be remembered?

How is the contribution you make, making the world you know a better place right now?

Well, here are 15 inspirational quotes about society to get you thinking.

Quotes about society (1-8):

  1. I think the first duty of society is justice. ~Alexander Hamilton
  2. The most violent element in society is ignorance. ~Emma Goldman
  3. A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both. ~Dwight D. Eisenhower
  4. The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children. ~Dietrich Bonhoeffer
  5. He who is unable to live in society, or who has no need because he is sufficient for himself, must be either a beast or a god. ~Aristotle
  6. You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. ~Mahatma Gandhi
  7. Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves. What is equally true is that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on. ~Robert Kennedy
  8. We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions. ~Ronald Reagan

Quotes about society (9-15):

  1. There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children. ~Nelson Mandela
  2. Individual commitment to a group effort; that’s what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, and a civilization work. ~Vince Lombardi
  3. Society as a whole benefits immeasurably from a climate in which all persons, regardless of race or gender, may have the opportunity to earn respect, responsibility, advancement and remuneration based on ability. ~Sandra Day O’Connor
  4. Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we’re looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn’t test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power. ~PJ O’Rourke
  5. Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we’re being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That’s what’s insane about it. ~John Lennon
  6. An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life. ~Robert A. Heinlein
  7. No society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable. ~Adam Smith

21 inspirational quotes about moving on

Today let’s explore some quotes about moving on.

How often do we form an emotional attachment to the bad things that happen to us when what we should be doing is drawing a line under them and moving on?

Bad things happen to us all and of course, they can be a bitter pill to swallow.

However, you can’t change what’s happened; only how you choose to look at what’s happened.

You can allow these things to define you; constrain you, and prevent you from enjoying the happiness you deserve.

The past serves only for the lessons it teaches us; it has no other bearing on the future. However bad the past may have been, that doesn’t mean the future can’t be better. You can’t change the past but you can shape the future.

So never be constrained by anything that has happened to you. Just take it on the chin and move on.

Learn the lessons of course, as they will make you wiser and stronger. Otherwise, focus on the future, don’t worry and above all be happy.

Nothing matters much and few things matter at all.

Here are 21 inspirational quotes about moving on to reinforce today’s underlying message.

21 inspirational quotes about money you’ll enjoy

People may tell you that money’s not important but, after oxygen, few things are more important to sustaining life in the modern age. So it’s essential that we take good care of our money and use it wisely.

That’s not to say we should be mean or stingy. Quite the contrary; being generous when it’s appropriate is very important too.

However, we should not waste money or fritter it away on things we don’t need, and will probably never use.

Enjoy your money when you have it but always put a little away for a rainy day because one day it will rain, of that you can be absolutely sure, dear reader.

Build capital over time and that capital can then generate an income stream for you.

Money can make your life easier of course but on its own, it will not make you happy. Never make the mistake of assuming that it will.

Happiness comes from within and if you’re not happy without money then having some money is unlikely to improve that situation.

Never chase money for its own sake. The personal cost of being overly acquisitive is likely to be very high indeed.

Make sure you have some balance in your life; then do what you love; do it well and the money will follow.

And never forget this; money is important but the people in your life are far more important. You can have all the money in the world but without people in your life, you have nothing.

Here are 21 inspirational quotes about money to help you reflect on what it really means. Enjoy them all.

Inspirational quotes about money (1-10):

  8. When I was young, I thought that money was the most important thing in life; now that I am old I know that it is. ~Oscar Wilde
  9. Money cannot buy peace of mind. It cannot heal ruptured relationships, or build meaning into a life that has none. ~Richard M. DeVos
  10. Money has never made man happy, nor will it, there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has the more one wants. ~Benjamin Franklin
  11. Bottom line is, I didn’t return to Apple to make a fortune. I’ve been very lucky in my life and already have one. When I was 25, my net worth was $100 million or so. I decided then that I wasn’t going to let it ruin my life. There’s no way you could ever spend it all, and I don’t view wealth as something that validates my intelligence. ~Steve Jobs
