Does voting make a difference?

Democracy is a fine thing, or so they say. However, does voting make a difference? I mean, a real difference.

I guess the supplementary question is, what do we mean by difference?

For me, making a difference would mean making life better for the majority of people, particularly ordinary working people.

Well, on that definition, in my experience, rarely does voting make any difference at all.

The rich always seem to do well; whoever has power, but ordinary people just struggle. And that struggle appears to be getting harder, particularly for young people.

The State of Politics:

The current state of politics is not impressive. Quite the contrary, in fact.

Ideas currently being promoted appear to be insane. Certainly, they have nothing to do with improving the lives of the majority.

It seems most politicians are focused on further improving the lives of the wealthy few at the expense of ordinary people.

The Puppet Masters:

And there’s another question that crosses my mind frequently these days. Who is actually in charge?

Is it the elected government, or are there individuals behind the scenes who make the real decisions? I mean, individuals who control and manipulate politicians and events.

Judging by the evidence before us in recent years, you would have to believe there are puppet masters who really pull the strings.

Voting Poems:

So, dear reader, what do you think? Am I wrong?

While you consider that question, here are two original poems that sum up my current view of politics and the voting system.

Original Love Poem

We get to share our lives with someone special if we’re lucky. Here’s a love poem I wrote to express how I feel about my wife, Joan.

I’ve known Joan since my teens, and, to this day, I adore her.

So, having written this love poem, I thought I’d share it with you.

I hope you like it.

Businesslike: A poem about the need to protect your interests

Here’s a poem about the need to be businesslike.

You must always be businesslike in everything you do, especially if you’re a creative person reliant on agents and advisors. Never assume people won’t rip you off. They will, if they’re given the chance.

Easy money can tempt even normally honest people, should they feel the need.

Never take your eye off the financial ball. Failing to do so could prove very costly.

Make Money

Not everyone is honest. Not everyone can be trusted. Many, if not most, people can’t be trusted. Just because they seem like thoroughly decent people doesn’t mean they are.

If it’s your money, you must know where it is and have control over access to it.

If you assume you can’t trust anyone, 99.9% of the time you will be correct.

Never trust anyone who doesn’t have as much to lose as you do.

Be businesslike and protect your own interests. If you don’t, no one else will. That much can be guaranteed.

Poem about the dangers of Internet dating

Today I offer you a poem about the dangers of internet dating.

We live in a world where bringing together lonely hearts can be tricky. This is why internet dating was invented. However, lonely hearts are vulnerable and can be easily exploited.

And if something can be easily exploited for money, it will be. Internet dating can be a minefield for the unwary.

When looking for love online, you must be very careful. Always be conscious that if your relationship is conducted solely through cyberspace, you have no idea whether the person with whom you are interacting is genuine or not.

3 philosophical poems to get you thinking

Today, I thought I’d share three philosophical poems written by me. Well, it’s philosophy as I see it, anyway.

All are original, and they reflect how I see the world.

Enjoy them, and please feel free to share them.

In particular, if you could share them on Pinterest for me, that would be helpful.

PHILOSOPHICAL POEMS
Make Money

Philosophical Poems:

1. Opportunity Poem:

Life is tough, and it’s easy to believe that there’s no hope. It’s easy to think that your life can’t get better.

However, in life, there will always be an endless stream of opportunities.

People will always have problems, and providing solutions to those problems can be a great way to make money.

So, instead of accepting your lot in life, seize the day and create the life you want.

Here is my philosophy neatly summarized in a poem.

2. Another Opportunity Poem:

If other people can seize opportunities, so can you. Yes, it’s not easy. However, it can be done, and people do. So can you!

3. Judgement Poem

None of us can know the personal battles others are fighting. So never be too quick to judge.

Unless you’ve walked two miles in someone’s shoes, give them the benefit of the doubt.

Offer your support, not your judgment.

Again, here is my philosophy neatly summarized in a poem.

State of the Nation – A poem for today

Today, it is the state of the nation I have on my mind. My nation is the United Kingdom, and with that, we’re all frustrated. However, I suspect people in every nation feel like that most of the time.

Now, I like poetry, and I like trying to write poetry. So, I thought I’d express my feelings in the form of a poem.

Yes, I’ve got a long way to go before I’ll get anywhere near the great poets, of course. However, we’ve all got to start somewhere.

Anyway, if my words resonate with you, please feel free to share this poem.

I appreciate your support, dear reader. Thank you.

2 Poems for today to make you think

In this post, I am offering you two poems for today.

I have never been clever with words, dear reader, but I’ve always been impressed by people who are. In particular, I like poetry and writers who are clever with verse.

So naturally, I like having a go at writing poetry and seeing whether I can produce something half-decent.

So, these are two poems written recently. The first is my reaction to the present cult of what has become known as ‘cancel culture,’ and the second reflects an incident that actually happened to me while attempting to mow my lawn at home.

If you enjoy either of these poems, please feel free to share them. They are free for anyone to share, provided they are not used for commercial gain.

Marriage and its joys in the form of a poem

Once again, I’ve been trying to write poetry. On this occasion, I’ve been exploring the concept of marriage. A subject to which most of us are drawn at some point in our lives.

At this point, it might be worth quoting the great Scottish comedian, Billy Connolly:

Anyway, I hope you find my latest poetic offering appealing. And if my words do resonate with you, then please feel free to share this poem with your friends or on Pinterest.
