Poem for the bereaved and remembering loved ones lost

Not long ago, I attended the funeral of a friend. This experience got me thinking about the nature of death, and so I wrote a poem for the bereaved.

I hope the words in the poem will offer comfort to those experiencing the distress of losing a loved one. I know from personal experience that few things in life are harder to bear.

Losing a loved one leaves a hole in our lives that can never be filled. So, it’s always a shock, however much it’s expected. Suddenly, that person has gone, and we’d give anything to spend a few more minutes with them, if only to say all the things we wish we’d said before their passing.

Certainly, it takes time and a period of adjustment before we gradually learn to cope without them.

We never get over losing someone, of course, but we do learn to live with it over time. That’s the nature of human existence. We adapt to our circumstances, and we learn to cope as best we can.

It’s that feeling that our loved one’s gone that is the hardest part to bear, or so it seems.

With death, naturally, we think in terms of a loved one having gone. However, as I sat there in the chapel, I realised that death is only the release of someone’s spirit, and that spirit will always be there, floating somewhere in the breeze.

If we close our eyes and think of them, they’ll always be there in our mind’s eye, smiling at us.

Knowing we can always see them in this way is a great comfort, I believe. Certainly, it is for me.

Life’s hard, and one of the saddest things about getting older is the frequency with which we find ourselves attending funerals.

However, if we’ve been lucky enough to know good people, then just knowing we have a way of seeing them again is reassuring to me.

2 original poems about success to inspire you

If you’re looking for some original poems on the subject of success, then take a look at these here.

Success is something many say they want, but few are prepared to do what is necessary to achieve it.

Yes, it’s possible, and many achieve great things, but nothing happens by accident. You have to want it, and you have to want it badly.

It can be done, and people do. So can you.

Poem about success (and another about the past)

POEM ABOUT SUCCESS

If it’s a poem about success you’re seeking, dear reader, I have an original one for you today.

It’s a poem that reflects my personal philosophy regarding success. That is, you have to make it happen yourself. No one ever became successful without putting in the hard yards first. However, everyone can enjoy success if they really want it and they’re prepared to work hard for it.

Anyway, take a look and see what you think.

In addition to a poem about success, I also have an original poem about the past for you.

Far too many people assume that because their past has been less than perfect, that will prevent them from achieving success in the future.

That’s simply not true.

You can start from where you are, use what you’ve got, and build the future you want.

It can be done, and people do. So can you!

2 poems about the afterlife to make you think

If it’s poems about the afterlife you seek, I have two for you today. Both are original, and I hope they appeal to you, dear reader.

As we age, it’s natural to be conscious of our mortality and reflect on death and the afterlife. This is particularly true once our parents pass away, or it has been in my experience.

So, as I have been thinking about it all, I thought capturing my thoughts in the form of poems would be a good idea.

Here they are and please feel free to share them

Poem to Celebrate the Working Class

Today, I am acknowledging the working class, those unsung heroes who rarely get their just rewards for the contributions they make.

In a world driven by ambition and big money, it’s easy to overlook the quiet strength of those good people on whom much of society depends. The people who make a difference and without whom nothing would work. In short, where would we be without the working class?

The working class, also known as the working poor or blue-collar workers, refers to people employed in occupations requiring either manual labour or modest levels of skill, often with limited financial resources and social mobility.

I don’t think such people get the credit they deserve for the contribution they make. So, in today’s poem, I thought it was time we honoured them.

These people are the hands that build, the minds that create, and the spirits that persevere through challenges most of us will never see.

Today’s poem is a tribute to those unsung heroes.

They deserve recognition, and they deserve more than they get.

Let’s take a few moments to remember ordinary people.

Poem about lifestyle choices

It is a fact that frequently, other people will try to tell us how we should live our lives or express disapproval of our lifestyle choices in some way.

For some reason, they think they get to decide what is or isn’t the correct way that we should conduct ourselves.

Now I agree with the idea of right and wrong. I accept that certain things are universally considered wrong. Stealing, for instance, or cheating on a loyal partner. Essentially, this means doing things that hurt other people.

However, if you choose to live in a way that does not hurt anyone else, why should that be anyone’s business but your own?

If you’re not hurting or bothering anyone else, surely you should be free to live as you please.

I was thinking about this yesterday, and my thoughts very quickly turned into a poem, which I thought I’d share with you, dear reader.

I hope it proves thought-provoking. Please feel free to share it on Pinterest or your preferred social media app.

Political Poem: The Guy in Number 10

Today I offer you a political poem.

Leave me alone with my thoughts for long and, very quickly, my thoughts will be turned into verse for the record.

Now one of life’s great disappointments, for me at least, is politicians. They always promise a great deal, but rarely do they ever improve anything for ordinary people. Invariably, they are driven only by self-interest.

Over the years, my views on our political leaders have not been positive. However, I cannot think of a worse bunch in my lifetime, than the current crop of third raters dominating politics wherever you look. That’s certainly true here in the UK. And I’m not referring to a single political party. Mediocrity is the order of the day across the political spectrum.

Anyway, I turned my thoughts into a poem, which I share with you today.

If you like it, please feel free to share it.

Poem about mistakes and why they’re important

We all make mistakes, and they can be frustrating.

Let’s face it, mistakes are inevitable, at least occasionally. However, remember this: mistakes are invaluable too.

We learn more from our mistakes than we could ever learn in a classroom. Every mistake we make is a lesson in disguise, offering us insights that no textbook or training could ever provide. And these are lessons we’ll never forget.

Mistakes form the basis of that valuable commodity known as experience.

If we embrace our mistakes and take the lessons from them, this is how we develop mastery in whatever we’re doing.

A willingness to embrace mistakes is what separates the average from the exceptional.

You too can be exceptional if you’re willing to make mistakes and learn from them.

Never fear mistakes. They are your best teacher.

To help you reflect on the points made here, allow me to offer you a poem about mistakes.

Patriotism poem to get you thinking

If you’re looking for a patriotism poem, dear reader, I have an original one for you today.

I’m always fascinated by the reaction to displays of patriotism, particularly by the mainstream media here in Britain. It usually involves subtle mocking or sneering, and it is rarely considered a noble thing. Perhaps that’s just the way it is here.

However, what’s wrong with people feeling a deep sense of connection with their roots? What’s wrong with people feeling a sense of belonging and pride in their nation?

Surely, patriotism fosters unity, strength, and a collective spirit that uplifts everyone.

I’m not an enthusiastic flag-waver by nature, but I am quietly proud of my roots and it’s certainly an important part of my sense of identity.

Anyway, having given the issue some thought recently, I wrote a patriotism poem to reflect how I felt about it.

I hope it will get you thinking about patriotism a little.
