If you’re like me, then you’re much more comfortable giving than getting.

When we give advice, our intentions are usually good, but rarely does it come over that way to the recipient of our advice, unless it resonates with what they had in mind anyway.

So when you’re considering giving someone the benefit of your wisdom, a good question to ask yourself is, “If I were to be on the receiving end of the advice I’m about to give, how would I feel and how would I react?”

If you think that your reaction will be negative, then perhaps you shouldn’t give that advice at all.

And remember, if you do give advice, tone matters. How you say something is just as important as what you say.

Put yourself in the other person’s shoes and treat them as you’d like to be treated. That way, your advice might have a better chance of being well received.
