3 philosophical poems to get you thinking

PHILOSOPHICAL POEMSToday I thought I’d share three original poems I wrote recently.

Both are original, and both reflect how I see the world.

Enjoy them, and please feel free to share them.

In particular, if you could share them on Pinterest for me, that would be helpful.

Philosophical Poems:

1. Opportunity Poem:

Life is tough, and it’s easy to believe that there’s no hope. It’s easy to think that your life can’t get better.

However, in life, there will always be an endless stream of opportunities.

People will always have problems, and providing solutions to those problems can be a great way to make money.

So, instead of accepting your lot in life, seize the day and create the life you want.

Here is my philosophy neatly summarized in a poem.

OPPORTUNITY POEM

2. Another Opportunity Poem:

If other people can seize opportunities, so can you. Yes, it’s not easy. However, it can be done, and people do. So can you!

Another Opportunity Poem

3. Judgement Poem

None of us can know the personal battles others are fighting. So never be too quick to judge.

Unless you’ve walked two miles in someone’s shoes, give them the benefit of the doubt.

Offer your support, not your judgment.

Again, here is my philosophy neatly summarized in a poem.

Does voting make a difference?

DOES VOTING MAKE A DIFFERENCE?Democracy is a fine thing, or so they say. However, does voting make a difference? I mean, a real difference.

I guess the supplementary question is: What do we mean by difference?

For me, making a difference would mean making life better for the majority of people, particularly ordinary working people.

Well, on that definition, in my experience, rarely does voting make any real difference at all.

The rich always seem to do well, but ordinary people just struggle. And that struggle appears to be getting harder, particularly for young people.

The State of Politics:

The current state of politics is not impressive. Quite the contrary, in fact.

Ideas currently being promoted appear to be insane. Certainly, they have nothing to do with improving the lives of the majority.

It seems most politicians are focused on further improving the lives of the wealthy few at the expense of ordinary people.

The Puppet Masters:

And there’s another question that crosses my mind frequently these days. Who is actually in charge?

Is it the elected government, or are there individuals behind the scenes who make the real decisions? I mean, individuals who control and manipulate politicians and events.

Judging by the evidence before us in recent years, you would have to believe there are puppet masters who really pull the strings.

Voting Poems:

So, dear reader, what do you think? Am I wrong?

Well, while you consider that question, here are two original poems that sum up my current view of politics and the voting system.

1. Voting:

6 top job interview questions to help you prepare

Job interview QuestionsWhen you’re finally leaving full-time education, your first job interview can be a daunting prospect. Dealing with job interview questions can be tricky if you haven’t done some preparatory work beforehand.

I’ve recorded one of my early experiences in the form of a poem, which I’ve included here.

The key takeaway message is ‘be prepared’.

Interview Mindset:

In order to be prepared, you need to understand the hiring manager’s interview mindset.

As a former hiring manager, I can tell you that, when you’re being interviewed, hiring managers have three questions in their heads: –

  1. Can you do the job? That is, do you have the skills required?
  2. Will you do the job? That is, do you have the motivation to do the job well?
  3. Will you fit in? That is, will you get along well with other team members?

Put concisely, they’re considering your SKILLS, MOTIVATION & FIT.

Your mindset in an interview should be, “How do I reassure them that I’m the answer to their prayers because I have exactly what they need?

Job Interview Questions:

The hiring manager will seek to answer the aforementioned three questions, by asking you a series of questions, and they’re all predictable.

Here are the top 6 job interview questions that are most commonly asked by hiring managers: –

  1. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
  2. Why are you interested in this position?
  3. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  4. Can you give an example of a time when you overcame a challenge?
  5. Where do you see yourself in five years?
  6. What do you know about this company/organization?

Your responses to these questions will determine whether you’re successful or not.

So, before you go for an interview, make sure you’re well-prepared. Prepare concise responses to these questions and don’t waffle. Think of it as having a quiver full of arrows ready to hit every target put before you.

And remember also, for every skill you claim to have, be prepared to provide an example of where you’ve used that skill with at least some degree of success.

REMEMBER: Prepare well and you’ll present well. Present well and you’ll give yourself the best chance of success.

As a hiring manager, I have always been impressed by candidates who are well-prepared.

Poem about a job interview:

Anyway, without further ado, here’s today’s poem. It describes how I got it wrong by not being prepared. That said, I only made the mistake once.

A poem about faith to get you thinking

POEM ABOUT FAITHToday, dear reader, I offer you an original poem about faith. Faith is often dismissed as being no longer relevant. I think that’s a mistake.

Consider for a moment the profound role of religious faith in our lives.

I’m sure you know that life is complex, and it’s filled with challenges and the emotional strain of dealing with other people.

Faith is like a lighthouse in the storm. It guides us and helps us avoid crashing onto the rocks. It’s a beacon of light that shines through the darkest nights, reminding us that even amid turmoil, there is a way forward.

Faith gives us hope and comfort, even in our darkest hours when everything seems bleak. It’s the assurance that no matter how tough today might be, there’s a purpose, a plan, and brighter days ahead.

In times of trial, faith is an asset that can make all the difference.

Now there are many religious faiths and I think they all serve the same purpose. Put simply, they help us cope with life. Whichever one you believe is entirely up to you. As long as it helps you.

Without further ado, here’s today’s original poem about faith.

Poem about success

Poem about SUCCESSIf it’s a poem about success you’re seeking, dear reader, I have an original one for you today.

It’s a poem that reflects my own personal philosophy with respect to success. That is, you have to make it happen yourself. No one ever became successful without putting in the hard yards first. But everyone can enjoy success if they really want it and they’re prepared to work hard for it.

Anyway, take a look and see what you think.

In addition to a poem about success, I also have an original poem about the past for you.

Far too many people assume that because their past has been less than perfect that will prevent them from achieving success in the future.

That’s simply not true.

You can start from where you are, use what you’ve got, and build the future you want.

It can be done and people do. So can you!

Poem about character

Poem about CHARACTERIf you’re looking for an original poem about character then you’ve come to the right place, dear reader. In fact today, I can offer you two closely related poems.

Occasionally, I think reflecting on the people we are and how others may see us can be useful. A little introspection helps with our self-awareness, I think. So, I’ve been doing a little bit of self-analysis recently out of which came these two poems.

The first one, called Character, reflects how I’d like to be judged.

The second poem, called Just Some Guy, reflects how I see myself.

Now don’t assume I’m putting myself down in any way because I’m not. I’m very confident in my own ability and I know how to add value to the lives of others. However, equally, I know that we’re all just people and we shouldn’t assume that we are in some way better than others.

Everyone has their place in this world and their own contribution to make. And everyone contributing to the lives of others deserves to be treated with respect.

Anyway, I thought I’d share these poems with you dear reader and you can decide on their merits, or otherwise.

If they do appeal to you, please feel free to share them.

Poem about friendship to get you thinking

POEM ABOUT FRIENDSHIPOne of the great pleasures in life is having a good laugh with a close friend.

We often make the mistakes of thinking we have lots of friends. However, for most people, that’s unlikely to be true.

We may have lots of acquaintances, and some may be very good acquaintances, but that’s not the same thing as friends.

A friend is someone you could call at 3 am, if you were in trouble, and know they’d be willing and keen to help you. Every other person you know is just an acquaintance, with varying degrees of familiarity.

The reality is that most of us have one, two, or possibly three, close friends and they’re our tribe. And that’s all we really need.

So, friendship matters, and we must all cherish our friends. Life wouldn’t be the same without them.

Here’s a poem I wrote with my take on friendship.

Poem about money to inspire you

Poem about moneyDear reader, do you want to know the secret to happiness? Do you want to know the key to success and the ticket to the good life? Well, it’s simple – MONEY! That’s right, I said it. Money makes the world go round, and you know it!

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking. “But Roy, money is a touchy subject. It’s not something we talk about in polite company.”

Well, maybe. Nevertheless, I’ve written this poem about money that will get you thinking about its significance, and it might even get you to re-evaluate your relationship with those greenbacks.

This is a poem about our need for money and why we can’t live without it.

So, whether you’re a banker, a broker, a cashier, or just someone who likes to stuff their pockets with dollar bills, this poem is just for you.

Take a few moments and read this poem about money now!

It might just change the way you think about that paper in your wallet or the numbers in your bank account. And who knows – it might just make you rich!

DISCLAIMER: Reading this poem does not guarantee wealth or financial success. But it’s still worth a shot, right?

Unrequited Love: When he doesn’t notice you

Many a girl has experienced the dilemma of being sweet on a boy who simply doesn’t pick up on the signals. I’m sure many a boy has had a similar experience with a girl for whom he’s fallen. Unrequited love is just a part of life as we know it.

Well, I’ve tried to consider it from the girl’s perspective and put it in a poem.

Take a look and see what you think.

It’s just a question of pronouns

There’s a modern phenomenon where we are constantly being asked about our pronouns. Personally, I find it strange, if only because how are we meant to remember them all? And really it’s all just virtue signalling.

In life, we take our cue from what we see and naturally we try to be polite.

So, the pronoun question is surely redundant?

Here’s my take on it in a poem.
