Political Poem: The Guy in Number 10

Today I offer you a political poem.

Leave me alone with my thoughts for long and, very quickly, my thoughts will be turned into verse for the record.

Now one of life’s great disappointments, for me at least, is politicians. They always promise a great deal, but rarely do they ever improve anything for ordinary people. Invariably, they are driven only by self-interest.

Over the years, my views on our political leaders have not been positive. However, I cannot think of a worse bunch in my lifetime, than the current crop of third raters dominating politics wherever you look. That’s certainly true here in the UK. And I’m not referring to a single political party. Mediocrity is the order of the day across the political spectrum.

Anyway, I turned my thoughts into a poem, which I share with you today.

If you like it, please feel free to share it.

Poem about lifestyle choices

It is a fact, that frequently other people will try to tell us how we should live our lives or express disapproval of our lifestyle choices in some way.

For some reason, they think they get to decide what is or isn’t the correct way that we should conduct ourselves.

Now I agree with the idea of right and wrong. I accept that certain things are universally considered wrong. Stealing for instance, or cheating on a loyal partner. Essentially, this means doing things that hurt other people.

However, if you choose to live in a way that does not hurt anyone else, why should that be anyone’s business but your own?

If you’re not hurting or bothering anyone else, surely you should be free to live as you please.

I was thinking about this yesterday, and my thoughts very quickly turned into a poem, which I thought I’d share with you, dear reader.

I hope it proves thought-provoking. Please feel free to share it on Pinterest or your preferred social media app.

Neanderthal Man: A poem about a modern phenomenon

For those unfamiliar with the term, Neanderthal man was a subspecies of humans that lived in Europe and Asia from around 400,000 to 40,000 years ago. In this context, the word ‘man’ is being used as a synonym for human beings.

In theory, this subspecies is long gone. Nevertheless, when we see how some people behave during modern protests, you must wonder whether this is true.

Don’t get me wrong, protesting is a valid form of making your voice heard in any democracy. People are entitled to protest if they feel they have a genuine grievance, and their voices are not being heard.

Where I do have a problem, though, is when protest descends into violence, vandalism, and destruction of property. I think that’s unnecessary. Certainly, it’s unlikely to win over hearts and minds, in my opinion.

Anyway, I summarised my thoughts on this subject in the form of a poem, which I thought I’d share with you, dear reader.

It’s just how I see it. You may see it differently and that’s fine. We all have our opinions on these things.

If you like the poem, feel free to share it.

Christmas Poem: Making memories that will last

Christmas PoemToday, I offer you a Christmas poem.

For those who celebrate it, Christmas is a very special time of the year. Not just Christmas Day, but the whole of December is taken up with preparing for the big day and spending time with family and friends.

It is particularly magical if you have young children. They look forward to it, they enjoy all the preparations, and they spend endless hours deciding what they’d like from Santa Claus.

And come Christmas Eve, they are bursting with excitement and anticipation and can barely close their eyes to sleep.

One year, we were away for Christmas, staying with my parents in another city. My son was most concerned about this situation because he thought Santa wouldn’t know where he was and, therefore, he’d miss out on his Christmas gifts.

Well, Santa doesn’t work that way. Young Philip had been good all year, so Santa made sure he found him.

And in the early hours of Christmas morning, a happy little boy was keen to reassure his parents that he’d not been forgotten.

Today’s Christmas poem remembers that Christmas long ago. It’s how the memories we cherish are made.

3 philosophical poems to get you thinking

PHILOSOPHICAL POEMSToday I thought I’d share three original poems I wrote recently.

Both are original, and both reflect how I see the world.

Enjoy them, and please feel free to share them.

In particular, if you could share them on Pinterest for me, that would be helpful.

Philosophical Poems:

1. Opportunity Poem:

Life is tough, and it’s easy to believe that there’s no hope. It’s easy to think that your life can’t get better.

However, in life, there will always be an endless stream of opportunities.

People will always have problems, and providing solutions to those problems can be a great way to make money.

So, instead of accepting your lot in life, seize the day and create the life you want.

Here is my philosophy neatly summarized in a poem.

OPPORTUNITY POEM

2. Another Opportunity Poem:

If other people can seize opportunities, so can you. Yes, it’s not easy. However, it can be done, and people do. So can you!

Another Opportunity Poem

3. Judgement Poem

None of us can know the personal battles others are fighting. So never be too quick to judge.

Unless you’ve walked two miles in someone’s shoes, give them the benefit of the doubt.

Offer your support, not your judgment.

Again, here is my philosophy neatly summarized in a poem.

Does voting make a difference?

DOES VOTING MAKE A DIFFERENCE?Democracy is a fine thing, or so they say. However, does voting make a difference? I mean, a real difference.

I guess the supplementary question is: What do we mean by difference?

For me, making a difference would mean making life better for the majority of people, particularly ordinary working people.

Well, on that definition, in my experience, rarely does voting make any real difference at all.

The rich always seem to do well, but ordinary people just struggle. And that struggle appears to be getting harder, particularly for young people.

The State of Politics:

The current state of politics is not impressive. Quite the contrary, in fact.

Ideas currently being promoted appear to be insane. Certainly, they have nothing to do with improving the lives of the majority.

It seems most politicians are focused on further improving the lives of the wealthy few at the expense of ordinary people.

The Puppet Masters:

And there’s another question that crosses my mind frequently these days. Who is actually in charge?

Is it the elected government, or are there individuals behind the scenes who make the real decisions? I mean, individuals who control and manipulate politicians and events.

Judging by the evidence before us in recent years, you would have to believe there are puppet masters who really pull the strings.

Voting Poems:

So, dear reader, what do you think? Am I wrong?

Well, while you consider that question, here are two original poems that sum up my current view of politics and the voting system.

A poem about faith to get you thinking

POEM ABOUT FAITHToday, dear reader, I offer you an original poem about faith. Faith is often dismissed as being no longer relevant. I think that’s a mistake.

Consider for a moment the profound role of religious faith in our lives.

I’m sure you know that life is complex, and it’s filled with challenges and the emotional strain of dealing with other people.

Faith is like a lighthouse in the storm. It guides us and helps us avoid crashing onto the rocks. It’s a beacon of light that shines through the darkest nights, reminding us that even amid turmoil, there is a way forward.

Faith gives us hope and comfort, even in our darkest hours when everything seems bleak. It’s the assurance that no matter how tough today might be, there’s a purpose, a plan, and brighter days ahead.

In times of trial, faith is an asset that can make all the difference.

Now there are many religious faiths and I think they all serve the same purpose. Put simply, they help us cope with life. Whichever one you believe is entirely up to you. As long as it helps you.

Without further ado, here’s today’s original poem about faith.

Poem about success

Poem about SUCCESSIf it’s a poem about success you’re seeking, dear reader, I have an original one for you today.

It’s a poem that reflects my own personal philosophy with respect to success. That is, you have to make it happen yourself. No one ever became successful without putting in the hard yards first. But everyone can enjoy success if they really want it and they’re prepared to work hard for it.

Anyway, take a look and see what you think.

In addition to a poem about success, I also have an original poem about the past for you.

Far too many people assume that because their past has been less than perfect that will prevent them from achieving success in the future.

That’s simply not true.

You can start from where you are, use what you’ve got, and build the future you want.

It can be done and people do. So can you!

Poem about character

Poem about CHARACTERIf you’re looking for an original poem about character then you’ve come to the right place, dear reader. In fact today, I can offer you two closely related poems.

Occasionally, I think reflecting on the people we are and how others may see us can be useful. A little introspection helps with our self-awareness, I think. So, I’ve been doing a little bit of self-analysis recently out of which came these two poems.

The first one, called Character, reflects how I’d like to be judged.

The second poem, called Just Some Guy, reflects how I see myself.

Now don’t assume I’m putting myself down in any way because I’m not. I’m very confident in my own ability and I know how to add value to the lives of others. However, equally, I know that we’re all just people and we shouldn’t assume that we are in some way better than others.

Everyone has their place in this world and their own contribution to make. And everyone contributing to the lives of others deserves to be treated with respect.

Anyway, I thought I’d share these poems with you dear reader and you can decide on their merits, or otherwise.

If they do appeal to you, please feel free to share them.
