3 philosophical poems to get you thinking

Today, I thought I’d share three philosophical poems written by me. Well, it’s philosophy as I see it, anyway.

All are original, and they reflect how I see the world.

Enjoy them, and please feel free to share them.

In particular, if you could share them on Pinterest for me, that would be helpful.

PHILOSOPHICAL POEMS
Make Money

Philosophical Poems:

1. Opportunity Poem:

Life is tough, and it’s easy to believe that there’s no hope. It’s easy to think that your life can’t get better.

However, in life, there will always be an endless stream of opportunities.

People will always have problems, and providing solutions to those problems can be a great way to make money.

So, instead of accepting your lot in life, seize the day and create the life you want.

Here is my philosophy neatly summarized in a poem.

2. Another Opportunity Poem:

If other people can seize opportunities, so can you. Yes, it’s not easy. However, it can be done, and people do. So can you!

3. Judgement Poem

None of us can know the personal battles others are fighting. So never be too quick to judge.

Unless you’ve walked two miles in someone’s shoes, give them the benefit of the doubt.

Offer your support, not your judgment.

Again, here is my philosophy neatly summarized in a poem.

State of the Nation – A poem for today

Today, it is the state of the nation I have on my mind. My nation is the United Kingdom, and with that, we’re all frustrated. However, I suspect people in every nation feel like that most of the time.

Now, I like poetry, and I like trying to write poetry. So, I thought I’d express my feelings in the form of a poem.

Yes, I’ve got a long way to go before I’ll get anywhere near the great poets, of course. However, we’ve all got to start somewhere.

Anyway, if my words resonate with you, please feel free to share this poem.

I appreciate your support, dear reader. Thank you.

Marriage and its joys in the form of a poem

Once again, I’ve been trying to write poetry. On this occasion, I’ve been exploring the concept of marriage. A subject to which most of us are drawn at some point in our lives.

At this point, it might be worth quoting the great Scottish comedian, Billy Connolly:

Anyway, I hope you find my latest poetic offering appealing. And if my words do resonate with you, then please feel free to share this poem with your friends or on Pinterest.

Poem about success (and another about the past)

POEM ABOUT SUCCESS

If it’s a poem about success you’re seeking, dear reader, I have an original one for you today.

It’s a poem that reflects my personal philosophy regarding success. That is, you have to make it happen yourself. No one ever became successful without putting in the hard yards first. However, everyone can enjoy success if they really want it and they’re prepared to work hard for it.

Anyway, take a look and see what you think.

In addition to a poem about success, I also have an original poem about the past for you.

Far too many people assume that because their past has been less than perfect, that will prevent them from achieving success in the future.

That’s simply not true.

You can start from where you are, use what you’ve got, and build the future you want.

It can be done, and people do. So can you!

1 word salad in a poem: An attempt to be positive

If the 2024 United States presidential election gave us anything, it gave us the idea of a word salad.

If you follow politics, you’ve probably noticed how politicians can talk for several minutes and say nothing significant. They respond to questions, but they never answer them. Instead, you get a word salad of platitudes and meaningless guff. And they wonder why the public no longer takes them seriously.

Recent elections in Britain and the United States have provided numerous examples of this phenomenon. So much so that I was moved to write today’s poem.

If you like it, please feel free to share it.

Original poem about hope at the start of the year

If you’re searching for an original poem about hope at the start of the year, then this post is for you, dear reader.

The turn of a new year has a quiet power of its own, don’t you think?

It arrives without asking, carrying both the weight of what we’ve lived through and the fragile promise of what has yet to happen.

Naturally, we pause to take stock. We think about those plans we made and some we’ve broken. We reflect on lessons learned the hard way and on those hopes we’re still brave enough to hold onto.

A new year doesn’t erase the past, but it offers a new chapter. Our future has yet to be written, but as the new year begins, we’re holding the pen.

Yes, certainty is in short supply, and politically, there is nothing but gloom.

We can’t predict what the months ahead will have in store, but we can choose to face whatever life throws at us with resilience, gratitude for our health, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when the path is unclear.

Here is an original poem I wrote that captures that shared moment of looking ahead with honesty and hope, acknowledging both our lack of control and our enduring desire to believe that something good may still be waiting.

So, please look at this latest poem, and if you like it, feel free to share it on social media.

However, allow me first to offer you my best wishes, dear reader. I hope the year ahead is kind to you.

Another Christmas poem that will make you think

If you’re looking for a Christmas poem, I’ve written one to make you think.

As the end of November approaches here in London, the Christmas season is getting into full swing. Young children dream about their ideal gifts, and hard-pressed parents do their best to fulfil those dreams within the limits of their income.

It’s a wonderful time of year, especially if you’re lucky enough to have young children or grandchildren.

However, there’s another side to Christmas, and it’s often overlooked. Not everyone’s having a great time, and family tensions can often explode when too much alcohol has been consumed.

And, in the modern age, many people live alone. At Christmas, that can be depressing. Such people are easily forgotten, and, for them, that can make them feel very lonely. This is particularly true for the elderly.

So, my message today is, if you’re celebrating Christmas, be kind, be considerate, and let sleeping dogs lie. Old grievances don’t matter anymore. If they’re in the past, leave them there.

As suggested above, I recorded my thoughts on this in the form of a poem that I share with you today.

If you like it, please share it on social media.

Christmas Poem: Making memories that will last

Christmas Poem

Today, I offer you a Christmas poem.

For those who celebrate it, Christmas is a very special time of the year. Not just Christmas Day, but the whole of December is taken up with preparing for the big day and spending time with family and friends.

It is particularly magical if you have young children. They look forward to it, they enjoy all the preparations, and they spend endless hours deciding what they’d like from Santa Claus.

And come Christmas Eve, they are bursting with excitement and anticipation and can barely close their eyes to sleep.

One year, we were away for Christmas, staying with my parents in another city. My son was most concerned about this situation because he thought Santa wouldn’t know where he was and, therefore, he’d miss out on his Christmas gifts.

Well, Santa doesn’t work that way. Young Philip had been good all year, so Santa made sure he found him.

And in the early hours of Christmas morning, a happy little boy was keen to reassure his parents that he’d not been forgotten.

Today’s Christmas poem remembers that Christmas long ago. It’s how the memories we cherish are made.

Poem set in the classic American diner

I have a new poem for you today, dear reader. It’s original, and I wrote it. The theme of this poem is the classic American diner.

When I shared it with a friend, I was asked how I came up with the idea.

So, I thought I’d share my response with you, too.

It started when I was listening to the song Breakfast in America by the British band Supertramp on the radio.

There are two lines in the song that caught my imagination. They were, “Could we have kippers for breakfast?” and “They gotta’ have ’em in Texas.

I liked the way the writer had rhymed breakfast with Texas. Yes, it’s not an exact rhyme, but it’s close enough.

So, I decided to try to use those rhyming words in a poem, too.

The next stage in my thought process was to imagine life in an American diner and the banter a young man might have with the waitress.

Then, to make the structure of the poem different, I decided to construct the verses in the style of the form of poetry known as limericks. That is, each verse is a limerick, but they are all connected.

For those who are unfamiliar with this form of poetry, limericks are 5-line poems with a specific rhyme pattern, where lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme with each other, with typically nine or ten syllables per line. And lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other, with five to eight syllables per line.

Anyway, once I got the idea, the first version of the poem was simply a flow of consciousness. Then I left it for 24 hours before tidying it up a bit.

I hope you like it.

In case you’re wondering, the “fella from Brussels” I had in mind was the movie star and martial artist, Jean-Claude Van Damme. He is known as the Muscles from Brussels, or so I’m told.

Poem about friendship to get you thinking

If you’re looking for a poem about friendship, I’ve written an original one for you today.

One of life’s great pleasures is sharing a good laugh with a close friend.

We often make the mistake of thinking we have lots of friends. However, for most people, that’s unlikely to be true.

We may have lots of acquaintances, and some may be excellent acquaintances, but that’s not the same thing as friends.

POEM ABOUT FRIENDSHIP
Make Money

A friend is someone you could call at 3 am if you were in trouble and know they’d be willing and keen to help you. Every other person you know is just an acquaintance, with varying degrees of familiarity.

The reality is that most of us have one, two, or possibly three close friends, and they’re our tribe. And that’s all we need.

So, friendship matters, and we must all cherish our friends. Life wouldn’t be the same without them.

Here’s the poem I wrote with my take on friendship.
