However you can’t change what’s happened; only how you choose to look at what’s happened. You can allow these things to define you; to constrain you; and to prevent you from enjoying the happiness you deserve. Alternatively you can say, “Pity me not. Stuff happens but I’m tough. I will not let anything prevent me from enjoying my life as best I can. I value my self-esteem and personal happiness more than I will allow unfortunate circumstances to throw me off course.” The past serves only for the lessons it teaches us; it has no other bearing on the future. So never be constrained by anything that has happened to you. Just take it on the chin and move on. Learn the lessons of course, as they will make you wiser and stronger. Otherwise focus on the future, don’t worry and above all be happy. Nothing matters much and few things really matter at all. ~Roy Sutton

Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have – life itself. ~Walter Anderson

You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space. ~Johnny Cash

To help yourself, you must be yourself. Be the best that you can be. When you make a mistake, learn from it, pick yourself up and move on. ~Dave Pelzer

Forgiving does not erase the bitter past. A healed memory is not a deleted memory. Instead, forgiving what we cannot forget creates a new way to remember. We change the memory of our past into a hope for our future. ~Lewis B Smedes

Every day is a new day and you’ll never be able to find happiness if you don’t move on. ~Carrie Underwood

As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison. ~Nelson Mandela
