Quote of the Day

If you want to make your mark in life then following the herd is not really the way to do it. Simply doing what everyone else is doing is fine and you’ll get along with other people that way but you’re unlikely to get noticed in any significant way. As the Arab proverb says, “Be contrary and be known.”If you want to stand out in the crowd then you have to be different. You have to offer something different. If your intention is to make people think then your ideas should go against the received wisdom of the day. If you’re going to do something, then make it something that no one has done before. People might say to you, “Oh, that can’t be done.” You have to be prepared to go out there and show them that it can be done. If you have a product to offer, whatever it is, it won’t get far if it’s just another ‘me too’ offering. When Elvis Presley emerged as an international singing sensation in the 1950s he was not like any performer before him. That was true of The Beatles too. These were people who had their own unique style and simply did things their own way. When Steve Jobs came along with the Apple Mac it was completely different to any other computer technology at the time. For a start it was far more user friendly and intuitive to use. Successful people are always a little bit different to everyone else. They do things differently to everyone else and they never feel constrained by what other people might say is the ‘proper way’ of doing something. They always have something different to offer. So, if you want to get ahead, be prepared to go against the flow. Don’t be a copy be an original. An original is far more valuable than a copy.
