Quote of the Day

If you want to be happy then start by appreciating the life you’ve got rather than coveting a life you think might be better. It’s easy to become disillusioned by any perceived negatives in your life. However it is better to focus on the positives. Sit down and make a list of the good things in your life. Having a coffee with your best friend; having a laugh with your children; the home you’ve created; the old car you’ve lovingly restored; your ability to beat everyone you know at tennis; et cetera. Perhaps you feel that there is nothing like any of this in your life. So, what do you enjoy? Perhaps you enjoy a soap opera or a sitcom on television? Perhaps you enjoy drawing or painting or writing stories? Perhaps you enjoy helping out at the local old folks’ home? Certainly helping other people can be rewarding. Whatever you enjoy the trick is to find a balance between your work and the rest of your life. If your life has a purpose, a pastime and a few other people with whom you have a genuine sense of connection then you have all you need to be happy. Accentuate the positives in your life and focus on enjoying what you’ve got. Yes it is fine to aspire to greater things in life but not to the point where you’re wishing your life away. Enjoy what you’ve got and if anything better comes along then that is a bonus.
