Quote of the Day

Vector illustration of speech bubblesWe think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty. ~Mother Teresa

Human beings are social animals we are not solitary animals like cats. We need a sense of belonging to a group or a family. We need other people. We need to feel wanted and loved by other people. We need to feel that someone cares about us. Being lonely, being unloved or uncared for this the worst kind of poverty. So if you’re lucky enough to have friends and feel loved then remember this; not everyone is quite as lucky as you. For instance in the United Kingdom, according to the charity Age UK, more than one million people in later life go for more than a month without speaking to anyone at all. How sad is that? No doubt many elderly people around the world will experience something similar. There are so many people out there who are lonely and feel unwanted and unloved. If you want to make a difference, reach out to them. Even if they appear to be difficult and unlovable, give them a chance. The world needs people to care, if the world is to be a better place. You can make an enormous difference just by reaching out to the lonely and the vulnerable. It won’t cost you much to make a little bit of effort but the difference you will make to someone else’s life will be immeasurable. So go one, find someone to whom you can reach out. You will not have to look far.
