Never lose sight of your priorities

If you’ve read my Quote of the Day today then you’ll know I’ve been unwell recently. My illness left me with little energy to do anything other than to reflect on life’s priorities. Like many people I am always chasing a goal; trying to achieve this or that objective and seeking to make the most of my time. All very admirable I’m sure but when one’s life is full of things to do and goals to achieve, it’s easy to forget the things that really matter. For me that starts with being happy. You have to be happy in yourself if you are to be good at what you do, as well as good company for other people. No one wants to spend much time with someone who is permanently miserable. Being healthy is another priority. If you don’t have your health then you don’t have very much at all. I’ve learned that over the past week or so. And then there are our loved ones. Human beings are social animals and we need other people. In particular we need the people we love most. I am very fortunate with the people in my life and I enjoy their company. Kiana Tom’s observation above is correct. These should be our priorities. Other things are important of course but we should never lose sight of our happiness, our health and our loved ones. Everything else should be secondary to these priorities.
