Making a change in your life

.Starting a new chapter or making a significant change in your life is not easy but it can be done. If your life is in a bit of a mess or you’re not where you’d like to be then you have to make a change if you want things to improve. Without a change, how could your life possibly improve? So if you accept the need for change, the question is, “How do you go about making a significant change and opening a new chapter in your life?”

First you must recognize that you are the captain of your own ship and you have complete control. You can choose to do whatever you want, within reason, but you must accept that it does require some effort on your part. You can choose to start a new business if you want or you can choose to go and live in say Spain or anywhere else that takes your fancy. Remember: There is no such thing as can’t, only will and won’t. So will you or won’t you? The choice is yours.

Before you make a decision on where you’re going, take some time to reflect on what could be, as well as what is. Taking some time to consider your direction carefully will help you stay on the right track once you have made a decision as to where you would like to go.

When you’ve decided upon a direction, it can then all seem a bit too overwhelming. The task seems absolutely enormous and you don’t know where to start. A big challenge can seem daunting and it can be tempting to give up before you’ve even started. However it can be done. You simply tackle it in the same way that you’d eat an elephant; one bite at a time. The trick is to break an enormous task down into a series of manageable but smaller tasks. Once you’ve broken it down into a series of smaller tasks, just take each task in turn and then work on each until everything has been completed.

Once you understand what needs to be done, you also need to consider the consequences of what you plan to do. Address each of them in turn to ensure that either you’ve got them covered or that you are prepared to accept them as a fair price to pay. However be careful not to exaggerate what you believe to be any consequences. It is very easy to exaggerate the negatives when you’re taking big decisions. Sometimes it can be a subconscious way avoiding seeing it all through to the end.

How you look at a challenge is also very important. Look at it as a difficult or uncomfortable problem and you’re less likely to succeed. Conversely think of it as fun, enlightening or even as an adventure and you are much more likely to succeed. A negative mindset is not helpful but a positive mindset can really drive you on to success. Re-think the way you look at it if necessary and always approach the task with a positive mental attitude.

So how will you now take steps to change your life for the better? Perhaps you feel you need a little more time and information before you can make a decision. Don’t take too long but in the meantime, perhaps buying a good book on the subject would help you? There are some excellent books available at Amazon and you can view a selection of them here.
