If you’re in business then your business will only be as good as the people you employ. Products are very important of course but people are more important. Hire the best people you can afford and choose them carefully. Lead and support them but give them responsibility too. Ensure they know what they are expected to deliver and how their progress will be measured. Then get out of their way and let them do their job. Meet with them at agreed intervals and measure their progress towards delivering their goals. Give them honest feedback, good or bad. Give credit where it is due but also let them know when their work is failing to meet standards. Treat them fairly and with respect but never tolerate anything that is below the standards your customers will expect. Always remember that without customers you won’t have a business for very long. So you must meet customer expectations as a minimum and exceed them whenever you can.
