Social Media may be disparaged by some but there is no doubting its impact and significance. Ignore it at your peril. For a business it represents a public relations opportunity and a means through which you can reach customers and potential customers. It is a marketing communications tool which savvy businesses are increasingly embracing. However to use it successfully you need to understand which social networking services provide the best channels for your business and your approach needs to be properly structured. In short you need to develop a social media strategy. If you have the money you could hire an experienced but expensive consultant to do the work for you. If you’re a small entrepreneur or an independent author, artist, or business professional then you’ll probably have to do it yourself. And if you don’t know much about it, where do you start?

Phil Bowyer’s book is a very good place to start and for the price it’s an absolute bargain. It provides a good overview of the subject and a practical guide to everything you need to consider. It is clearly presented and full of simple, step-by-step instructions and useful tips that will help you to develop your own social media strategy. If like me, you are an entrepreneur just starting to grapple with all these confusing and seemingly complicated social networks and you’re trying to make sense it all, then this book will help you. Certainly it has helped me It is written in a style which is easily digestible and can be read in a couple of hours. If you need a simple introduction to the subject, then this book is excellent.
